BY COMMAND of His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah, the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam, Pehin Siraja Khatib Dato Pa-duka Seri Setia Dr Ustaz Hj Awang Yahya Hj Ibrahim has been re-appointed as a member of the Privy Council in his perso-nal capacity with effect from April 9, 2015.

His Majesty’s Office made the announcement in a statement yesterday.

According to the 1959 Brunei Constitution, Clause (1) of Article 6, the Privy Council advises the Sultan on matters related to the exercise of authority of mercy as well as amendment or revocation of any of the provisions of the constitution.

The council may also, subject to the provisions of any written law, advise the Sultan on the appointment of persons to Malay customary ranks, title, honours, dignitaries and the designations of such appointments.

Its roles include performing other functions such as the Succession and Regency Proclamation, as may be conferred on it by any written law or, subject to the constitution and any such law, by the Sultan.
