THE Brunei ICT Awards (BICTA) 2015 Working Committee continued its series of roadshows at Universiti Brunei Darussalam (UBD) to promote the competition that aims to foster innovation and creativity among students.

A press statement from the Authority for Info-communications Technology Industry of Brunei Darussalam (AITI) said more than 30 undergraduates and graduates, as well as lecturers attended the roadshow at UBD’s Entrepreneurship at Campus (E@C).

The E@C, an initiative between UBD and BEDB, is currently run by UBD’s Entrepreneurship Club students to help them achieve their business goals.

Dr Yong Chee Tuan, the mentorship coordinator of the BICTA 2015 Working Committee, was present to brief attendees on the annual competition, which is jointly organised by AITI and InfoCom Federation Brunei (IFB).

Introduced in 2004, BICTA is a component of an international competition, the Asia Pacific ICT Alliance (APICTA) Awards where the quality and categories provided are in line with APICTA standards, the statement said.

There are three categories in the BICTA competition, namely the School Project, Tertiary Project and ICT Industry, with first-placed winners receiving cash prizes of $2,500, $5,000 and $10,000 respectively.

Four special awards are also up for grabs this year - Promising Entrepreneur, Young Developer, Green ICT, and Emerging Technology.

Undergraduate and graduate students must be registered in their respective local higher learning institutions to participate in the BICTA competition’s Tertiary Project category. Graduates may be eligible to participate within one year of graduation with the school’s consent.

Students can participate as an individual or in a group, and to be accompanied by a tutor or superviser to guide their progress throughout the competition especially at APICTA, the statement added.

The next roadshow for tertiary students will be held at the International Graduate Studies (IGS) College on April 22 at 2pm. The deadline for entry submissions is on May 1.
