Council of Women Brunei observes its 30th year anniversary with prayers

THE Council of Women Brunei Darussalam held a thanksgiving prayer ceremony yesterday to mark 30 years of its establishment.

Held at Masjid Suri Seri Begawan Raja Isteri Pengiran Anak Damit, Kampung Manggis/Madang, the religious ceremony started with mass _Maghrib _prayers lead by the Imam of the mosque.

This was then followed by Sunat Hajat prayers, the recitation of Surah Yassin, a thanksgiving prayer and concluded with a mass _Isya’ _prayer.

Present as the guest of honour was the Deputy Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports, Datin Paduka Hjh Adina Othman.

Attending the event were members of the 13 associations under the Council of Women Brunei Darussalam namely Persatuan Pertiwi Brunei (PERTIWI), the Women’s Institute of Brunei Darussalam (WI), the Girl Guide’s Association of Brunei Darussalam, the Badan Kebajikan Isteri-Isteri Angkatan Bersenjata Diraja Brunei (BAKTI) and the Brunei Government Senior Officers Wives Welfare Association (BISTARI).

Also present were members from the Belait District Women Welfare Association (PKP), the Persekutuan Guru-Guru Melayu Brunei (PGGMB), the Women Graduates Association (PSW), the Persatuan Ahli Perniagaan Wanita of the Tutong District (PERGANITA), the Badan Kebajikan Wanita Perumahan Negara Lambak Kanan (BAKANITA), the Kampung Lambak Youth Association (PERBEKAL), the Women’s Association of Kampung Junjungan (PEWAJA) and the Persatuan Nurul Islam (PNI).

The Council of Women of Brunei Darussalam takes a leading role and acts as a national body in representing the views of all women in Brunei Darussalam, said their website.

The council’s main aim is to enhance the status of women in all fields especially in education, economy, welfare, culture and social.
