Be alert, attentive at all times, community leaders told

PENGHULUS and village heads should keep an updated record of residents under their care to ensure effective monitoring of the community. This should be done at least once every six months, said Min istry of Home Affairs Permanent Secretary Dr Hj Abd Manaf Hj Metussin yesterday during the official ceremony for the newly appointed Kg Madang Village Head Hj Emran Hj Ismail.

Hj Emran, prior to the appointment, had worked as a Senior Medical Record Officer with the Ministry of Health.

In his speech, Dr Hj Abd Manaf said that grassroot leaders should always be attentive of their environment and to be alert at all times.

He urged leaders to make full use of the neighbourhood watch programme to strengthen the safety aspect of their community.

Hj Emran, 62, expressed his appreciation for the appointment and said that he was looking forward to working with the residents to maintain peace and keep the village crime free.

According to population census of 2011, there were 1,647 residents at Kg Madang.

The village has around 139 elderly who receives old pension funds every month and 24 recipients of welfare benefits such as single mother, orphans, mentally ill patients and unemployed.
