Psychiatric Rehabilitation Centre opens new facilities

THE Ministry of Health’s Psychiatric Rehabilitation Centre in Kiarong boosted its capabilities with the opening of a new multipurpose room and two porta cabins.

Dubbed the ‘An Nur Harapan Room’ and ‘An Nur Harapan Workshops One and Two’, the new facilities will be used for activities carried out as part of patients’ treatment programmes at the centre, which include group therapy sessions, sheltered workshops, support groups (for both patients and their families) woodwork and handicrafts programmes, educational talks and religious classes.

Speaking at the key handover ceremony, Consultant and Head of Psychiatry Department at Raja Isteri Pengiran Anak Saleha (RIPAS) Hospital Dr Hilda Ho explained that the ongoing programmes offered at the centre placed emphasis on holistic recoveries for the patients.

Such programmes required the involvement of professionals of multiple disciplines, including doctors, nurses, occupational therapists, psychologists and medical welfare programmes, she said.

“This centre required additional space in order to carry out these ever-developing programmes successfully.

Meanwhile, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of Annur Harapan Pg Hj Salleh Ab Rahaman Pg Hj Damit said that the company intended to become a major partner to mental patients in meeting any needs and requirements in ensuring their wellbeing and welfare towards a challenging future.

He also mentioned that the financial resources for the project had been collected through Her Royal Highness Pengiran Anak Isteri Pengiran Anak Sarah’s charity projects.

Following this, Pg Hj Salleh Ab Rahaman handed over the mock key to the room and workshops to Dr Hilda.

Present to witness the handover was Minister of Health Yang Berhormat Pehin Orang Kaya Johan Pahlawan Dato Seri Setia Haji Adanan Begawan Pehin Siraja Khatib Dato Seri Setia Haji Mohd Yusof.

Among those also present were MoH Permanent Secretary Datin Paduka Dr Hjh Norlila Dato Paduka Hj Abdul Jalil; MoH Deputy Permanent Secretaries Hjh Siti Mariam Hj Mohd Jaafar and Dr Hjh Rahmah Hj Md Said; Director-General of Medical Services Dr Hj Zulaidi Hj Latif and MoH Senior Special Duties Officer Hj Mahrub Hj Murni.
