THE body of a local Chinese man was found along the Kuala Belait beach early morning yesterday, police said.

The Royal Brunei Police Force (RBPF) said in a statement that a 993 distress call was received by the Kuala Belait Police Station at 6.55am reporting the find along the Kuala Belait coastline, not far from the Sea View Hotel on Jln Maulana. Police said the man was believed to have drowned at sea.

Early investigations show that a sole witness saw the 54-year-old Bruneian man earlier that morning jumping off the top floor of his own house after climbing out from a window. Searching later for the man, the witness found the deceased lying on the beach behind the house.

The witness was a tenant renting the ground floor of the deceased's house.

Sea View Hotel staff members as well as nearby shop workers when interviewed around 10.30am were mostly unaware of the incident. However, the hotel supervisor confirmed that all staff and hotel guests were safe and accounted for when she heard about the incident on social media.

Police have ruled out foul play.
