A PROJECT site in Kg Rimba have been identified a for the construction of buildings for non-government organisations (NGOs), the Minister of Development said yesterday.

Yang Berhormat Pehin Orang Kaya Indera Pahlawan Dato Seri Setia Hj Suyoi Hj Osman said that tenders for the construction would be most likely put out this September.

However, the minister did not specify how many buildings would be constructed, or which among the local NGOs would benefit.

YB Pehin Dato Hj Suyoi was speaking in respo nse to a question asked by Legislative Council (LegCo) member Yang Berhormat Datin Paduka Hjh Salbiah Hj Sulaiman about building aid developments for NGOs during the seventh day of the 11th LegCo session yesterday.

“These NGOs do not have the financial resources, therefore their ability to build their own buildings without aid from the government is extremely difficult,” YB Datin Hjh Salbiah said.

In his answer, YB Pehin Dato Hj Suyoi said that the determined sites were in the “design process”.

However, he clarified that the ministry would only be providing the NGOs with the sites and designs.

“Maybe there are other related issues that should be thought up by the relevant government agencies,” he said.

In 2011, His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah, the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam, announced in his 65th birthday titah that he had consented for special assistance to NGOs in the form of land sites, designs and approval for them to build and maintain amenities for welfare, including infrastructure, so long as they were not against regulations.
