A HOUSE at Spg 23, Jln Puragam in Kg Panaga caught fire yesterday morning but only suffered limited damage thanks to the quick efforts of firefighters to quell the blaze.

According to witnesses who managed to speak to the house owners during the incident, three male siblings were asleep in a bedroom on the first floor when the youngest of them noticed smoke coming out from their parents’ master bedroom. Waking his two elder brothers, the three rushed out of the house in panic.

Responding to an emergency call at 8.46am, the Seria Fire Station dispatched ten firefighters and three fire trucks to the scene, where thick smoke was already billowing out from the master bedroom window, said the Fire and Rescue Department in a statement to the media.

Led by Assistant Station Officer Yusof Hj Zainip, the firefighter team extinguished the fire within minutes. While the majority of the fire damage was contained within the affected room, damaging a mattress, most of the house furniture was water-damaged due to the dousing. Losses are still being assessed.

The fire has been officially declared as incendiary incident, which implies human negligence.
