Districts launch Nat’l Day celebrations

SEVERAL national flag hoisting ceremonies and flag distributions took place throughout the Sultanate yesterday to kickstart the 31st National Day celebration.

In Brunei-Muara district, a handover of national flags and national day posters ceremony took place at the Brunei-Muara District Office.

The ceremony started with the marching of 31 flag-bearers comprised of participants of the National Service Programme (PKBN).

Acting District Officer of Brunei-Muara, Misle Hj Abd Karim, then presented the flags and posters to uniformed personnel members and 16 penghulus in the Brunei-Muara district.

The flag was then hoisted by the Royal Brunei Police Force (RBPF) personnel while the national anthem was performed by the Fire and Rescue Department band.

A similar event took place at the Tutong district’s Community Hall yesterday.

The event started with the arrival of the Tutong district officer, Wardi Hj Mohd Ali, followed by the national flag entourage.

The entourage consisted of the Tutong district four-wheel drive association, KEKAL motorcycle club, the Prisons Department fife and drum team as well as members of the village volunteers programme.

The ceremony then continued with the handing over of the national flag to the Tutong RBPF. The RBPF team then proceeded with the flag hoisting followed by the national anthem.

The “Bendera Negara” song was then performed by the choir team consisted of officers and staff of government departments and branches of the Tutong district, as well as students of Muda Hashim Secondary School and Sufri Bolkiah Secondary School.

The district officer then distributed the national flags to the penghulu and village heads of Tutong district before the ceremony concluded with the choir team performing the songs “_Berkibarlah Bendera” and “Misi Merdeka”._

Meanwhile, at the Taman Persiaran Cendera Kenangan in Belait, the giant flag was raised by the RBPF to the sound of the national anthem, led by a choir comprising Belait secondary school students.

Belait District Officer Hj Haris Othman also handed out flags to be flown by Penghulus in mukims across the district, while the youth, represented by participants of the Belia Cinta Tanah Air programme, also received a flag to be flown at Belait’s Youth Centre.

Temburong district also organised a similar event to kickstart the nationwide celebrations. On hand to present national flags and National Day celebration posters to Penghulus and village heads in the district was Temburong District Officer, Hj Abd Hamid Dato Paduka Hj Abdullah.

The event was held at Utama Bumiputera Complex in Bangar Town. Also present was Yang Berhormat Hj Sulaiman Hj Ahad, Legislative Council Member and head village of Kg Belingos in Temburong.
