Brunei celebrates Maulud Nabi

THE _Maulud Nabi _celebrations yesterday brought together over 11,106 Muslims in town centres across Tutong, Belait and Temburong to participate in the annual processions and religious talks.

In Tutong, over 4,500 male participants showed up for the procession led by Hj Nazmi Hj Mohamad, Permanent Secretary of Management and International at the Ministry of Finance.

The participants represented 39 contingents from various government organisations and schools within the district.

An annual tradition being observed to mark Prophet Muhammad’s (PBUH) birthday, the procession which passes through town kicked off at 8.30am from the field of Muda Hashim Primary School. The males, dressed in _cara melayu _and the military uniform, walked the 2.1km procession accompanied by the _Selawat _or melodious praises for God’s Messenger (PBUH) recited by the dikir group comprising civil servants and youth.

Meanwhile, some 300 females attended a talk based on the theme of “Loving the Prophet (PBUH)” held at the Tutong Community Hall.

The talk, delivered by invited speaker Ustazah Hjh Omi Kalsum Hj Mohd Noor, explored ways Muslims can foster their love and admiration for Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) whose way of life served as a model for humanity. Present at the all-female celebration was Hjh Binanun Hj Bungsu, spouse of the Ministry of Finance’s Permanent Secretary of Management and International.

Meanwhile, more than 4,300 joined in celebrating Prophet Muhammad’s (PBUH) birthday at Padang Bandar in Belait with the Permanent Secretary of Core Education from the Ministry of Education Dr Hj Junaidi Hj Abdul Rahman heading the 2.1km procession. The event began with a reading of the Al-Quran, followed by a dikir marhaban performance by a contingent comprising of government servants working in Belait.

Dr Hj Junaidi presented certificates of participation to the heads of all 50 contingents. Dr Hj Noralizam Hj Aliakbar from the Seri Begawan Religious Teachers University College (KUPU SB) also delivered a special talk on the Prophet’s (PBUH) life and its significance for all Muslims, while a _tausyeh _performance and a thanksgiving prayer was also read.

In a separate ceremony held for women, over 300 participants marked _Maulud Nabi _with a religous talk, prayers and performances of nasyid, tausyeh and dikir marhaban at Kuala Belait’s Dewan Persidangan. The spouse of Dr Hj Junaidi, Hjh Zainab Hj Abdul Wahab, was the guest of honour.

Temburong this year saw about 1,406 males from 23 contingents participating in the annual procession, which involved a route covering 2.1km around Bangar Town.

The walk began at 8.30am and was led by Abdul Mutalib Pehin Orang Kaya Seri Setia Dato Paduka Hj Mohd Yusof, Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Communications.

Prior to the procession, Quranic verses was recited by Bokok Religious School teacher Abdul Aziz Hj Hamzah.

Afterwards, the imams of mosques in the district peformed a Dikir Marhaban as well as a Doa Selamat and Selawat read by Imam Norezam Zaini of Kg Batu Apoi Mosque.

Roughly 300 females also attended a religious talk on “Loving the Prophet (PBUH)”, which took place concurrently at the Bangar Town Community Hall. Present was Abdul Mutalib’s spouse, Noor Ashikin Pehin Orang Kaya Sura Pahlawan Dato Paduka Hj Mohd Tahir.

The Brunei Times
