MoH issues health advisory over flood

THE Ministry of Health reminded the public to take precautionary measures following heavy rain and flooding in certain areas.
Flooding can cause occurrence of water-borne and air-borne infectious diseases such as diarrhoea, food poisoning and vector carrier diseases such as dengue fever, it said in a statement issued yesterday.
The ministry urged the public to make sure their water supply is clean and not contaminated as well as ensure there is no stagnant water that can become a breeding ground for mosquitoes.
The ministry advised the public to cook and prepare their food and water properly, prioritise self-hygiene and safety, maintain clean surroundings and to seek treatment if they fall ill.
Members of the public are reminded to be cautious especially on the safety of children, to prevent incidents such as drowning, injuries and infections.
For chronic diseases patient, they must have enough supplies of medicine. They are advised to contact their nearest medical facilities for assistance if they do not have enough supplies, the statement added.
