RESIDENTS of Kg Lumut 1 have raised concerns over waste disposal and infrastructure developments during a recent meeting.

Kg Lumut I’s village head Yang Berhormat Hj Mohd Shafiee Ahmad told The Brunei Times yesterday that a gathering was held at the village’s Balai Raya earlier this month to identify pertinent issues to be brought forward in next year’s Legislative Council session.

“There has been a recent occurrence of a few irresponsible people who have dumped rubbish indiscriminately around the housing areas,” he said, adding that Lumut 1 residents share only one main disposal site.

“We are in the process of forwarding the matter to the authorities, but at the same time we (the village consultative council) are also encouraging residents to consider hiring private rubbish pick-up services – and we are seeing if we can get a good deal from these companies to do so,” he added.

As one of Belait’s two representatives to the Legislative Council, YB Hj Mohd Shafiee said he will also be meeting with the Ministry of Development next month to raise administrative issues of the district.

“The meeting is designed to be a pre-discussion (preceding) the 11th Legislative Council session next year.

“The objective is to discuss any administrative issues on infrastructure developments such as buildings and roads, so that the council’s session will not be slowed down by administrative details and procedure. This allows bigger, wider issues to be raised.”

Other issues affecting residents included flooding.
