Brunei to hold Maulud Nabi procession on Jan 3

BRUNEI will celebrate Maulud Nabi with the annual procession at Taman Sultan Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien on January 3.
The mass gathering and procession is expected to start at 7am in the capital, the Ministry of Religious Affairs said.
In Tutong, the event will be held at the field of Muda Hashim Primary School, while Temburong’s Dewan Community Hall complex will play host to the celebrations. A parade will also be held at Municipal field on Jalan Sultan in Belait.
Leaders of the teams participating in the Maulud Nabi celebrations were briefed yesterday by officers from the Ministry of Religious Affairs at the Islamic Da’wah Centre to ensure the event runs smoothly.
During the briefing, Hj ‘Abdoh Dato Seri Setia Hj Abd Salam, permanent secretary of Religious Affairs, briefed the teams’ representatives on the format of the parade.
Team leaders were also informed on the proper behaviour during the celebrations to ensure the activities would be conducted in an orderly manner.
The agencies involved in the briefing were the Adat Istiadat Negara Department, Royal Brunei Police Force, Medical Services Department, Bandar Seri Begawan Municipal Board as well as Fire and Rescue Department.
This year, the competition for the parade will be divided into five categories:
i. Primary, religious, Arabic preparatory and private schools
ii. Secondary, Arabic and private schools as well as higher education institution and colleges.
iii. Government ministries and departments.
iv. Mukim, villages, village consultative councils and Mosque Takmir Committee.
v. Associations and private sector.
