CHILE has approached Universiti Brunei Darussalam (UBD) for possible academic exchange of faculty and students, said the country’s envoy to Brunei.

Christian Rehren, Chile’s non-resident ambassador to the Sultanate, said his country is looking for more ways to engage with Brunei aside from economic cooperation.

Reheren said he met with UBD officials in Brunei last month to discuss the possibility of bringing Chilean lecturers to the university on a short-term academic exchange.

“We encouraged them to bring some Chilean professors here on a short-term basis. These are the sort of people-to people initiatives we are trying to create for our two countries to get to know each other,” the Kuala Lumpur-based envoy told_ The Brunei Times _recently.

The ambassador added that they are prepared to offer the first scholarship for a Bruneian student to study in Chile.

“This would be the first scholarship of its kind, now we are trying to assess the level of interest from students and UBD on initiatives like these.”
