Public warned of financial scams as year-end bonus paid
BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN
THE Autoriti Monetari Brunei Darussalam (AMBD) has warned the public of financial scams amidst the year-end bonuses received by civil servants recently.
“With many employees from the public and private sector receiving year-end bonuses, the Autoriti Monetari Brunei Darussalam (AMBD) would like to remind members of the public to be wary of unauthorised and misleading use of the AMBD logo and name for the endorsement of investment products or programmes, including those offered through social media such as WhatsApp and Facebook,” the central bank said in a statement yesterday.
Financial scams are often promoted as seemingly atttractive investment opportunities, sometimes fraudulently claiming the endorsement or approval of regulators, the AMBD said in the statement.
The AMBD urged members of the public to check that individuals and companies offering financial products are licensed by AMBD.
A list of AMBD-licensed companies can be found in the authority’s website.
The public is also advised to contact AMBD at 2388388 or email fie@ambd.gov.bn.
