Government officer faces two charges for accepting money

A CHIEF Technical assistant at the Water Services Department at Public Works Department was charged with corruption yesterday for accepting $400 to approve a tender quotation by a company in supplying CCTVs.

Defendant Sunie Timbang also faces another offence under Section 165 of the Penal Code (Chapter 22) which forbids government servants to accept any valuables with connection to their position.

According to the statement issued by the Anti-Corruption Bureau yesterday, the defendant accepted $400 from a Malaysian national to approve a company’s quotation in the tender to provide a CCTV system to Mengkubau and Tasek Water Treatment Plant some time between May and June 2009.

During the proceedings yesterday, Deputy Public Prosecutor Pg Nina Jasmine PLKDR Pg Hj Bahrin sought for a two-week adjournment to allow the defendant to consider his plea.

A further mention of the case will be heard on January 8, 2015. Sunie has been released on a $5,000 bail or one local surety pending the next mention of the case.
