74-yr-old man receives cash donation after losing his boat
A 74-year-old man from Kampung Mentiri yesterday received a cash donation from Majlis Perundingan Kampung (MPK) Mentiri in Brunei-Muara for the loss of his boat, which was his primary source of livelihood.
Haji Dewa Rebaha said, “I lost the boat this year and I used the boat for fishing; the boat was my source of income, usually I sell the fish to the market, but now I don’t have the boat, maybe it’s not my ‘rezeki’(livelihood).”
The recipient said, “I may not deserve to get the donation, but this is what we called as ‘rezeki’ given from Him.”
Haji Dewa lost his boat to thieves this year.
The recipient of the cash donation of undisclosed amount expressed his appreciation to the MPK and other village members for “helping the residents of Kampung Mentiri.”
The donations were collected from among the village residents.
Apart from Hj Dewa, Md Haris Idris, who lost his father, also received a donation.
He attended the event on behalf of his whole family.
Speaking to The Brunei Times, the head village and the chairman of MPK, Hj Bujang Hj Sabtu said, ‘The late Haji Idris Mahali (father of Md Haris) was one of the committee members of MPK while Hj Dewa is our former head village. This is one of our efforts to show our concern and respect to them and also to appreciate their contribution to this village.”
For more than 20 years since the establishment of MPK, the MPK’s committee in the Sultanate has extended help to 4,082 members.
MPK was set up with three goals in mind: to strengthen the effectiveness of the institution as community leaders, to foster good citizenship and to plan and implement all plans for the welfare of the people in this country.
