New app tracks flight delays
BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN
A New mobile application called iFlyBrunei app informing people about flight delays was launched yesterday. The flight information that can be received on handheld devices via the iFlyBrunei app was launched by Minister of Communications Yang Berhormat Pehin Orang Kaya Hamzah Pahlawan Dato Seri Setia Hj Abdullah Begawan Mudim Dato Paduka Hj Bakar at a function to observe the International Civil Aviation Day 2014 at the Royal Brunei Recreation Club in Berakas.
Speaking to The Brunei Times, Civil Aviation Department officer Haszemi Mat Yassin said the iFlyBrunei app benefits users, especially when a flight delay occurs.
“Say, for example, you’re on the way to pick a family member from the airport and the flight arrival time is 1.30pm. But on arriving at the airport, one may sometimes get frustrated to know that the flight arrival is delayed,” he said.
“Hence, this application comes in handy in informing people instantly on their phones about flight delays, arrival and departure.”
“This can help and save the time of those going to pick up their friends and relatives. The app would also help people reach the airport at the right time, he added.
The app also offers information on all flights schedules, safety rules and services available at the Brunei International Airport.
The Ministry of Communications in a statement said iFlyBrunei is in line with the DCA’s initiative to better its services and provide easier options for users to gain information through their mobile devices.
“It also upholds the ministry’s vision: Towards a Smart Society and Excellence in Communications for Enhancing National Competitiveness by 2017,” the statement read.
Android phone users can download the iFlyBrunei application at Google Play store. The app will be available on Apple’s Apps Store in two weeks.
Brunei this year celebrates its 60th anniversary of its participation and involvement in the aviation industry since its first runway was built on November 15, 1954.
The International Civil Aviation Day is observed every December 7 by the International Civil Aviation Organisation. This year its theme highlights ‘Cooperation in Global Aviation Progress’.
Also present during the launch of the mobile app were Permanent Secretary of Communications Abdul Mutalib Pehin Orang Kaya Seri Setia Dato Paduka Hj Mohd Yusof and Deputy Permanent Secretary of Communications Mohd Riza Dato Paduka Hj Yunos.
