THE newly-appointed Fire and Rescue Commanding Officer of Belait District Branch 'B' has vowed to pay particular focus to emergencies in the oil and gas sector under his jurisdiction.

Commanding Officer Muhd Shahreeni Hj Mohd Yussof, who was appointed at a handing over ceremony yesterday at the Branch ‘B’ headquarters, said that equipment and the training for manpower and operations would be made ready for effective and immediate deployment at all times.

“Under the jurisdiction of Branch ‘B’, we will be ready to meet the needs of the community, government buildings, the private sector as well as the environment – especially peat fires common to this area,” he said in an interview.

He added that discipline amongst all personnel was integral to the department’s success in realising its vision of “working with communities to protect what they value”.

Meanwhile the former Commanding Officer Abdul Azis Mohd, who spent eight years in his final post, expressed his hope for the department to continue to have a relationship with the District Disaster Management Cell, who they have been working closely with in large scale operations.

Yesterday’s handing over of duties ceremony also featured donations to personnel who have lost close family members, as well as presenting a plaque housing a Quranic verse to a personnel who recently embraced Islam. The ceremony ended with a tahlil and doa arwah, led by the bilal of the Jamalul Alam Mosque, Mohd Shahirwandy Samsudin.
