16km traffic queue on Miri route

A 16KM queue beginning from the Rasau toll bridge and ending at the Sg Tujoh immigration checkpoint was reported yesterday between 8 to 9am.

According to staff manning the toll, the route that connects Brunei and Miri saw heavy traffic for slightly over an hour, before returning to routine level.

An employee, who declined to be named, said this was the first time the queue was this long, while some users on the social media estimated it to be 21km though this was not verified by immigration officials at the border.

Traffic flow to neighbouring Sarawak often peaks during holiday seasons, with the director of Tourism Malaysia in Brunei Darussalam in September estimating visits from the Sultanate to Malaysia to be 1.4 million this year. In the past month, the Malaysian ringgit has weakened against the Brunei and Singapore dollar. Of late, the Singapore dollar has been trading at slightly more than RM 2.63.
