A charity golf competition to commemorate the 93rd anniversary of the Royal Brunei Police Force (RBPF) collected $2,200 for its orphans fund.

In a ceremony held at RBPF headquarters yesterday, the chairperson of the event, Senior Superintendent Pg Mohd Jefri Pg Hj Abd Hamid, said the funds will be used for the children of former officers and junior ranking members of the RBPF who had passed away.

“Through this charity event, it is hoped that the burdens of these children, who have lost a (parent) to depend on, will be lessened,” he said.

“The RBPF hopes these children can also feel happiness like (the participants) felt during the competition.”

He said the event was also held to foster closer relationships between the participating members of various law enforcement agencies, including the RBPF, the Royal Brunei Armed Forces, the Land Transport Department and the Narcotics Control Bureau as well as between members of the Pantai Mentiri Golf Club.

The secretary of the event, Deputy Superintendent Hj Azree Hj Abd Manaf, said the funds collected were in addition to their donation to the RBPF orphans fund.

He said the money would be used for the various financial needs of the children.

He added that a portion of the funds would also be used for donation ceremonies to be held in the near future.

A total of 44 officers and other members of law enforcement agencies participated in the golf tournament, which was divided into three categories: VIP, Individual and Team.

Prizes were awarded for first, second and third place in each category, including trophies and golf bags.

The event was jointly sponsored by Jasra Car Rentals Sdn Bhd, Petrokon Utama Sdn Bhd, Readymix Sdn Bhd, Abdul Razak Holdings, Royal Brunei Catering, Sehat Factory, Jati Transport Sdn Bhd and Concepts Computer Sdn Bhd.
