Agency keen to assist students bound for Canada, UK
BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN
STUDENTS interested in pursuing higher education particularly in the United Kingdom and Canada can now seek free advice and guidance from Brunei’s newest education services agency, Findlay (B) Sdn Bhd.
Representing educational institutions in Canada as well as the UK, they are accredited by the Brunei Darussalam National Accreditation Council under the Ministry of Education.
Its office is located at the Abdul Razak Complex in Jln Gadong. Findlay’s Director Sunita Martin told The Brunei Times that Findlay recognises that students need to be supported not just academically, but also in their personal development and work experience that will give them competitive advantage.
She said the company would soon introduce training and personal development workshops tailored to young people on topics such as CV writing, project management, time management and presentation skills, among others.
The Canadian institutions represented by Findlay are Fraser International College, which is a pathway college for Simon Fraser University in Burnaby, British Columbia, and the International College of Manitoba – a pathway college to the University of Manitoba.
According to a press statement, each college is located on the university’s campus, and enjoys the facilities and services of the university, including lectures by university-approved lecturers.
The colleges offer University Transfer Credit programmes (UTPs) that allow the students to progress either into the university’s first year or second year degree programmes.
These UPTs are ideal for O level school leavers or A level students who do not meet the university’s direct entry requirements.
Students will receive a combined Letter of Offer for the programme at the college and their chosen degree at the corresponding university.
The small class sizes with a wide mix of nationalities provide a supportive environment designed to help the student to adjust to living and studying in Canada, the statement added.
The three main intakes per annum are in January, May and September.
Simon Fraser University is ranked within the Top 300 QS World Rankings which is a benchmark currently used by the Brunei Government’s Ministry of Education for loan applicants and scholarships for direct entrants.
Fraser International College is located on Simon Fraser University’s Burnaby campus.
The campus is one of the most awe-inspiring university settings in the world, offering a stunning views of the mountains, cities, ocean and islands from the summit of Burnaby Mountain.
It is connected by rapid transit to Simon Fraser University’s Downtown Vancouver and Surrey campuses.
The University of Manitoba is in Winnipeg, Canada’s most affordable city. It is western Canada’s first university and has produced 97 Rhodes Scholars — the pinnacle of academic achievement — which is the most for any university in western Canada.
The statement said Canada offers world class education with qualifications valued around the world.
