Politeknik Brunei teachers attend course on assessing student competency

A TOTAL of 26 education officers and lecturers from Politeknik Brunei are currently attending a training programme on assessment of student competency at the Seameo Voctech in Gadong.
According to the press statement of Politeknik Brunei, the programme, called “Assessment of Student Competency for Politeknik Brunei” is crucial for improving teaching activities and learning outcomes, especially with the use of appropriate assessment tools and techniques such as rubrics and portfolio assessment.
During the opening of the training programme yesterday, Acting Director of Politeknik Brunei, Denis Ho, said that the assessment of student competency is vital as it allows the lecturers to assess students’ performance, progress well as learning that has taken place.
At the same time, the lecturers would be able to judge their instructional effectiveness and the curricular adequacy.
This programme will provide the participating teachers from Politeknik with the knowledge and skills in the assessment of students’ competency, particularly in planning and developing different types of assessment instruments and in preparing answers or marking schemes which are very relevant to all teachers.
The acting director also mentioned that Politeknik Brunei will continue to provide its staff and lecturers with the appropriate professional development and training so that the teaching and learning process at the Politeknik Brunei will remain current and relevant.
The soft opening was also attended by Assistant Director of Politeknik Brunei Alias Hj Abu Bakar, Seameo Voctech Centre Director Hj Mohd Sharifuddin Hj Md Salleh, and other officials from Politeknik Brunei and Seameo Voctech Regional Centre.
