Education minister: We’re striving to enhance SPN21

THE Ministry of Education is striving to enhance the 21st Century National Education System (SPN21) by focusing on education structure, co-curriculum and technical and vocational education in accordance with Brunei’s Vision 2035.
Minister of Education Yang Berhormat Pehin Orang Kaya Seri Kerna Dato Seri Setia (Dr) Hj Awg Abu Bakar Hj Apong said this in an interview with Radio Televisyen Brunei yesterday.
The minister told the state broadcaster that $385 million has been allocated to develop the education infrastructure which is mainly building new facilities.
“There are 28 projects slotted over the next seven years that will help to improve the condition of education buildings,’’ he said.
One of the objectives is to provide a more comfortable environment to students and educators, he added.
This is with the hope “it will be able to improve the quality of teaching and learning’’.
Under the National Development Plan (NDP) 2012-2017 for the ministry, construction work at several schools and institutions are currently taking place and all others are being refurbished in accordance with the needs and current developments.
The new developments include more classrooms, computer rooms, science laboratories, library and counseling room.
