FOUR books from the Sultanate have been nominated at this year’s Malaysian-based National Book Award.

The books — The Syariah Penal Code: An Introduction (in the English and Malay languages); State Mufti Fatwa 2012; and Syariah Criminal Penal Code (Neraca Allah) — were sent by the State Mufti’s Office to compete in the Regional Premier Publishing category.

The award ceremony, organised by the Malaysia’s Book Development Foundation (YPBN), will be held today at the Putra World Trade Centre (PWTC) in Kuala Lumpur.

Representing the State Mufti, Yang Berhormat Pehin Datu Seri Maharaja Dato Paduka Seri Setia (Dr) Ustaz Hj Awg Abdul Aziz Juned, at the event is Director of Administration Department of the State Mufti Dato Paduka Ahmad Bukhari Pehin Siraja Khatib Hj Abu Hanifah, who departed the nation for the Malaysian capital, yesterday.

YPBN is a non-governmental organisation established in 2002 to promote the book industry in Malaysia and to boost the reading culture in the nation. Meanwhile, the National Book Award is aimed at recognising and appreciating the hard work of writers in the country as well as to encourage the publishing industry to produce more quality writing instead of quantity.
