A MAN was sentenced to 14 months in jail on three counts of voluntarily causing hurt to his wife of six years.

The court document submitted by prosecuting officer Siti Nurjauinah Hj Kula, states that defendant Hazwani, 29, first hurt his wife Seimah on November 11. He was enraged by her explanation of her work leave which he found unsatisfactory.

Hazwani continued hitting and kicking her throughout the day as he did not accept her explanation.

He only stopped at dawn on November 12, after hitting her head and left ear repeatedly leaving her weak and in pain.

The next day, Hazwani accused Seimah of having an affair with another man and beat her again.

Seimah tried to tell him that she did not have any affair, but he kept hitting and kicking her arms, left ear, back and head repeatedly.

He also threw an Ambi Pur (air freshener) bottle and his mobile phone at her before stopping to go to sleep. Hazmi threatened to beat her again after his sleep.

Seimah took their children to her in-laws’ house while he was sleeping, and she was brought to the hospital and the incident was reported to the police.

She had to do a surgery on her left ear as a result of the beating.

Hazwani was granted a stay of execution pending an appeal at the High Court against the Magistrates’ Court decision following the sentencing.
