SIX special needs students are competing in Korea today for the Global IT Challenge for Youths (GITC) with Disabilities.

The contingent, which left the Sultanate yesterday, comprised students from Universiti Brunei Darussalam, Politeknik Brunei, Maktab Sains, Meragang Sixth Form Centre and Masin Secondary School. They will be contending with other youths from the Asia-Pacific region over five days in four challenges: e-Tool, e-Life, e-Design and e-Creativity.

The six students were selected by the Special Education Unit (SEU) of the Ministry of Education based on their IT skills and competencies, with two officers from the SEU accompanying the group as chaperones, while another two will be representing Brunei in the IT Forum and serving as mentors for the students.

This is the second time Brunei is participating in GITC, with two local students with sensory impairments bagging third price at the United Nations Conference Centre in Bangkok last year.
