New Korean Ambassador meets Deputy Minister of MinDef

THE Deputy Minister of Defence recently received a courtesy call from the newly-appointed Korean Ambassador to Brunei.

Dato Paduka Hj Mustappa Hj Sirat met Cho Won Myung on Tuesday at the Ministry of Defence (MinDef), Bolkiah Garrison.

Expressing his gratitude for the warm welcome, the foreign envoy said he looked forward to “a wonderful stay and working experience in the region”.

Cho presented his Letters of Credence to His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah, the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam, on Nov 24 at Istana Nurul Iman.

This week, the Royal Brunei Navy (RBN) also hosted a high-level delegation visit from the People’s Liberation Army (PLA) of China, comprising eight military members led by Major General Xiao Yunhong, Commander of Guangxi Military Area, Guangzhou Military Command.

Major General Xiao on Monday paid a courtesy call on RBN Commander First Admiral Dato Seri Pahlawan Abdul Aziz Hj Mohd Tamit at the National Disaster Management Centre (NDMC).

During the meeting, the PLA delegation were presented with an overview of the RBN’s organisational structure, roles and functions, followed by a roundtable discussion between both sides. They also boarded KDB Darulehsan for a ship tour.

Enhancing bilateral defence relations and sharing views on issues of mutual concern were the highlights of the annual military exchange visit held on Monday and Tuesday.
