8 expats detained for failure to show immigration passes
BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN
THE Immigration Department detained eight foreigners for failing to produce valid immigration passes after authorities conducted several raids in the capital yesterday.
Sixteen officers raided two residences in Berakas, where six men and two women were arrested.
In a media statement, the department said six of the foreigners were eventually released when their employers produced their passports with valid passes.
The remaining two were issued with special immigration passes until their case is resolved through the legal system.
The department reminded employers to ensure their workers possess valid visas or work passes, and that individuals should be allowed to hold their passports in the event they are questioned by Immigration.
