A DELIVERYMAN who was entrusted with the handling of money for a company of which he instead pocketed over $13,000 is scheduled to be sentenced in the next two weeks after pleading guilty to criminal breach of trust.

Sius Okit, 38, was a driver for the Daikyo Industrial Gas Sdn Bhd whose responsibilities include delivering gas to customers in Brunei, accepting payment from those customers for the gas supply and issuing receipts as an acknowledgement of payment.

Once he had received payment, he would then give the money to the company’s clerk.

The court document submitted by deputy public prosecutor Dk Siti Nurul Fairuz Pg Hj Rosli validates his duties as an employee with the company. However, Instead of giving all the money to the clerk to enter into the company’s account, Sius would take the money and keep it for his personal use.

The defendant’s activity was left unchecked over a period of seven months with a total sum of money taken amounting to $13,952.

On December 1 Sius went to see his manager to confess to taking the money. His arrest came after the complainant filed a police report regarding the matter.

The defendant is currently held in remand at the Jerudong Prison pending the sentencing on December 13 before senior magistrate Dk Masni Pg Hj Bahar.
