THE workshop on risk assessment for school field trips concluded yesterday with a certificate presentation ceremony at the Ministry of Education (MoE).

Organised by the ministry’s Department of Administration and Services, the four-day workshop was the continuation of the Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) Guidelines for Field Trips book launch held last Wednesday at the Royal Berkshire Hall, Jerudong Royal Brunei Polo and Riding Club in Jerudong.

The objective of the workshop was to equip participants, especially education officers and staff of the ministry, with the importance of safety and health in organising field trips as well as noting and identifying possible risk assessments in accordance to the SOP guidelines throughout the field trips.

The workshop was held from November 25 to 29 at the Ministry’s Media and In-Service Centre (MISC at Citis Square and was facilitated by Hj Hazilan Hj Ramli, Acting Head of Safety, Health and Environment at the Universiti Brunei Darussalam (UBD).

In his remarks, Hj Hazilan said he was overall satisfied with the participants’ progress and acknowledged the sharing of knowledge sessions throughout the workshop which have benefited everyone.

According to a previous report, the SOP Guidelines for Field Trips book will act as a manual or guide for readers before planning a field trip and is intended to explain the steps required to conduct a comprehensive risk assessment for activities carried out during field trips to ensure that they are ready to face any emergencies or incidents in an organised and systematic manner.

MOE also created a new division called Health, Safety, Security and Environment (HSSE) in December last year and it started operating in March this year. The Ministry hoped that the launch of the book and the workshop organised would be a significant progress towards raising awareness on the importance of HSSE in an educational context.

Present as the guest of honour and later on-hand to present the certificate of completions to participants was Hjh Kamlah Hj Mohd Daud, Director of Examinations Department under MOE.

Also present was the Acting Director of Administration and Services Departmen, Pg Hj Rosli Pg Hj Halus, senior officers from the ministry and school principals.
