2 men fined for untaxed cigarettes

TWO men were fined $1,600 and $2,000 respectively after they pleaded guilty to possession of untaxed cigarettes.

In the first case, defendant Andre Sateri Sianong @ Andre Asnnaf Daneil Abdullah Sianong, 29, was fined $1,600 after he pleaded guilty to possession of four cartons of untaxed cigarettes.

The court document states that the defendant was detained on June 26, by Customs preventive officers while at Kg Pengiran Kerma Indera Lama when an inspection led to the discovery of the contraband inside a box. The excise duty to be paid was $200.

The court allowed a grace period up to January 26, 2015 for the defendant to settle the fines or face the one month imprisonment in-default.

In another case, a Malaysian man Gilbert Wee Lip Joo, 35, was fined $2,000 after he pleaded guilty to possession of four cartons of untaxed cigarettes.

The court document states that the cigarettes were found in the defendant’s car during inspection at the Kuala Lurah Customs Control Post on November 10.

The cigarettes were bought in Limbang Town for RM75. The excise duty to be paid was $250.
