Village consultative council members complete course

FIFTEEN members of the Village Consultative Council of Kg Masjid Lama, Pekan Muara, Sabun and Pelumpong (MPK-MLPMSP) recently completed a two-day course on local fruit preservation and jam processing.
Organised by the Department of Agriculture and Agrifood (DAA) through their Agrifood Product Development and Agrifood Industry Development units, the course is one of the training services provided by the department to assist small and medium agrifood enterprises to further develop and diversify local products, especially products that are based on local fruits.
The course was held at the Brunei Agriculture Research Centre (BARC) in Kilanas from November 24-25.
At the same time, the course is aimed at
ensuring members of MPK-MLPMSP practise hygiene and safety during product preparation and processing. THe objective is also to ensure product diversification which will increase MPK revenue.
Four products were developed by the participants of the course which includes jeruk kedondong (local fruit pickles), jeruk kepayas (papaya pickles), papaya-pineapple jam and pineapple tart fillings. The course sessions and demonstrations were conducted by officers of Agrifood Development Unit.
