Minister: Study effectiveness of entrepreneurship programmes
BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN
THE Minister of Education said the Student Entrepreneurship Development Expo (SEDex) should be used to evaluate the effectiveness of honing students’ entrepreneurial skills and performance.
Yang Berhormat Pehin Orang Kaya Seri Setia (Dr) Hj Awg Abu Bakar Hj Apong said the expo could be used to study the weaknesses of entrepreneurship programmes.
During the launch of the third SEDex yesterday, he said the expo provides an opportunity to assess the levels of achievement and engagement in entrepreneurial activities.
“This evaluation is important for us to measure its success and weaknesses. This can act as a starting point for us to improve such weaknesses. At the same time, we can work towards improving the programmes,” he continued.
The minister noted that the involvement of students in the SEDex expo has been encouraging in its third year, and hopes that it would leave a big impact on students in wanting to improve their skills.
A total of 40 schools from Brunei-Muara district, 33 from Tutong, 22 from Belait and 12 schools from Temburong are participating in SEDex.
YB Pehin Dato Hj Abu Bakar said entrepreneurial education can be defined as a lifelong learning experience to obtain knowledge, skills and entrepreneurial values through being taught or either formal or informal education.
“The success of entrepreneurial education in school relies on the execution of a strategic and farsighted education plan. The programme will only be considered successful if it is sustainable and scaleable,” added YB Pehin Dato Hj Abu Bakar.
The nationwide expo that is being held with the recent 24th Teachers’ Day celebration is expected to run up to November 27.
Visitors can expect to see products from primary and secondary schools as well as sixth-form colleges including paintings, handicrafts and food.
In the Brunei-Muara district, the expo is held at the Youth Centre in the capital, Tutong’s Central Mall and at the foyer of the Bumiputera building in Temburong’s Bangar. The expo is expected to be launched at today at Tudung Saji, Kuala Belait.
