ISB Year 2 pupils’ visit to Berakas Fire Station

YEAR Two children of International School Brunei (ISB), who included Her Royal Highness Princess Ameerah Wardatul Bolkiah, yesterday went beyond the four walls of the classroom to learn about the current standards in firefighting techniques by visiting the Berakas Fire Station.

The pupils started the educational visit, which was part of their History Unit on The Great Fire of London of September 1666, with a walk to the station.

There, they were greeted by the staff of the Fire and Rescue Department, who included its director and well as senior officials, and were given a number of demonstrations on the facilities and skills such as a demonstration of the hydrant 1 procedure which included the fire women skimming down the sliding pole. The fire women also demonstrated the use of the powerful hoses used to put out fires.

A highlight of the day was the chance to try on the fire safety gear which very hot and heavy. To round off a very enjoyable day the children had the opportunity to ride in the fire trucks.

In a press statement, assistant head teacher at the school, Julie Smith, expressed her gratitude to the Fire and Rescue Department for a wonderful time.
