AIDS council holds Instagram photo contest

THE Brunei Darussalam AIDS Council (BDAC) is organising an Instagram photo competition to mark World AIDS Day 2014 and to raise awareness on the pandemic.

The competition will begin today and will end on December 20, said a statement issued by the BDAC yesterday.

World AIDS Day is observed annually on December 1.

It is aimed to promote awareness on HIV/AIDS through the use of social media, to instill a sense of responsibility in spreading accurate and informative messages beneficial for the community while also encouraging active learning through individual research on the subject matter.

In order to participate in the competition, all entrants must follow the BDAC’s instagram account (@BDAIDScouncil) and throughout the duration of the competition their account must remain public for viewing.

All entrants are allowed to submit more than one photo on the social media site and the photos must show the red ribbon which is an international symbol of HIV/AIDS awareness.

Participants must have the submitted photos captioned with the hashtag #WorldAIDSDayBN and #BDAIDSCouncil.

Additionally, the captions accompanying the photos must include one or more HIV/AIDS related messages to raise public awareness.

Three winners will be announced next January with the first place winner receiving an Apple iPad Mini while the first runner-up will receive a tablet and the second runner-up will get an external hard drive. The prize presentation ceremony is also expected to take place within the month..

According to the World AIDS Day website, an estimated 34 million people have HIV with more than 35 million people having succumbed to the virus making it one of the most destructive pandemics in history.
