7 join ASEAN Volunteer Corps in Vietnam

SEVEN delegates from different government bodies were deployed to Vietnam yesterday to engage in the fourth ASEAN Young Professionals Volunteer Corps (AYPVC).

A total of 44 volunteers from ten ASEAN Member States is working together in the second phase of the programme for two weeks starting yesterday until December 5th.

The AYPVC programme is aiming to bring together young professionals from ASEAN member states to undertake voluntary community work in areas of their expertise in various locations.

As for this phase all the volunteers will be working with the local community to develop a solution for the waste management problem faced in Thua Thien Hue Province in Vietnam

The volunteers will also be constructing a fence for the kindergarten school, as well as conduct life skills workshops for the children in the community, such as on environmental sustainability and hygiene. Project Manager for AYPVC Vietnam, Khairunnisa Asha’ari said “We have brought together a diverse group of volunteers who come from different backgrounds to participate in this project and we hope to be able to work with the local community to develop sustainable solutions and activities.’’

Khairunnisa Asha’ari said “It will not just be about community development itself, but also to promote ASEAN Community through cultural exchange.’’

The third phase of this programme will be held in Laos.

The chosen participants for this phase will be required to engage in social work involving Women’s Development through empowerment of entrepreneurship, technical and marketing skills as well as Children’s development by teaching children soft skills and confidence building.
