Donations for nine Kg Ayer families hit by recent fire

NINE families affected by the recent fire at Kg Bakut Pengiran Siraja Muda B of Kg Ayer received monetary donations from the government of His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam through the Brunei Islamic Religious Council (MUIB), yesterday.

Also in attendance to receive donations were the victims of the fire that occurred on October 11 at the Chempaka Shopping Complex in Batu Satu.

A total of $11,000 worth of zakat (tithe) funds were donated to the victims who were each allocated $200. School supplies such as bags and books were also given for their children who are still in school.

Senior Religious Officer, Hj Abd Wahab Hj Sapar handed over the donations at the Ministry of Religious Affairs (MoRA) headquarters.

In his welcoming remarks, Hj Abd Wahab advised the fire vic tims to be patient and have a strong heart. He also assured them that positive things would come through Allah SWT’s blessings.

One of the fire victims, who wished to be anonymous, said that she was grateful to receive the donation and said it will help lessen the burden.

Alhamdulillah for the donation, I will use it to buy the necessary things that my family needs.”

The housewife said she was unsure how the fire started as she wasn’t home when it happened and that the fire destroyed most of their belongings.

“At the moment, I am living with one of my children. But _InsyaAllah _soon I will apply for government housing.”

The mother of 11 has also received donations from the Community Development Department (JAPEM) and other government bodies.

Also present during the donation ceremony were officers from the Brunei Islamic Religious Council (MUIB).
