Quran competition winners named

IN AN effort to create quality Al-Quran readers, the Islamic Studies Department, Ministry of Religious Affairs continued to stress quality in its existing Al-Quran readers and potential qari and qariah.

The department yesterday named the winners of its 51st Al-Quran Reading Competition for Religious and Arabic Schools.

The competition which saw a total of 30 participants was divided into three categories which were further divided into male Quran reader (qari) and female (female Quran reader). 

Category Alif was for students in Year 10, 11 and pre-university, while Category ‘Ba was for students in Year Seven, Eight and Nine. Category Jim- for students in Year Five and Six. They were judged based on tajweed (pronunciation) (40 marks), song (25 marks), voice (15 marks) and fasahah (fluency) (20 marks).

Head of Co-Curriculum Section, Hj Ismail Hj Mohd Arshad presented winners with their awards.
