Five men arrested in gambling den raid

FIVE local men were detained by police after a late Monday raid for suspected gambling activities at a private residence in Kuala Belait.

Acting on a tip-off from the public, Royal Brunei Police Force (RBPF) personnel from the district headquarters in Panaga, including investigators from Crime Investigation Department (CID) led by the Supervising Detective Officer, conducted the raid operation at 6.05pm.

The two-hour operation ended with the arrests of five males aged between 40 and 50 years. They were charged with the offence of participating in katam-katam gambling.

Police also confiscated gambling paraphernalia, including some items found hidden in a cupboard.

They also seized cash amounting to $4,452 to be used as evidence.

After interrogation, each of the five were released on court bail of $1,000 with a local acting as guarantor.

They will be charged in court for gambling offences punishable under Section 7(2) of the Common Gaming Houses Act, Chapter 28.
