Ministry of Education holds Al-Quran reading competition

THE Ministry of Education (MoE) held a Musabaqah Tilawatul Al-Quran (Quran Reading Competition) in conjunction with the 24th Teachers’ Day celebration and 100 Years of Formal Education in Brunei yesterday at the Islamic Da’wah Centre.
The competition which was opened to various departments and institutions under the MoE and the Ministry of Religious Affairs (MoRA) saw eight Qari and Qariah competing for the top spot.
Securing first place in the female category with an overall score of 87.38 per cent was Hjh Hannani Hj Abdul Halim. Second place went to Serizainoor OKK Hj Noordini, while third and fourth place went to Khuzaimah Hj Abd Ghafar and Dk Rabiatul Adawiyah Pg Sallehudin respectively.
Meanwhile, Shaifulbahri Hj Ahmad secured the first spot in the male category with an overall score of 86 per cent, followed by Radzuan Hj Othman in second place. Eddy Fazlin Hj Amdan and Hj Haji Othman landed in third and fourth place respectively.
Present as the guest of honour was the Education Minister Yang Berhormat Pehin Orang Kaya Seri Kerna Dato Seri Setia (Dr) Hj Awg Abu Bakar Hj Apong.
Also present was the Deputy Minister of Education, Dato Seri Setia Hj Yusoff Hj Ismail, as well as senior officers from the MoE and MoRA.
The competition was aimed to improve the reading of Al-Quran among the officers and staff of the ministries as well as to foster and nurture ties amongst the participants through religious programmes.
