Fire victims receive help;still sad over loss of homes
BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN
VICTIMS of the Kampong Bakut Siraja Muda B fire are still devastated over the loss of their homes, two weeks after the incident happened.
The victims were grateful for the goverment support rendered to them.
However, they were sad that they could not continue living in the house they grew up in.
Pg Mohd Sahrin Sah Pg Bakar, who is currently living with his in-laws on land, said he is sad to see his parents’ years of work on the house lost in a day.
Another victim, Pg Hjh Norsalam Pg Hj Omarali, said she is currently living with her sister a few houses away from her burnt home.
“It won’t feel the same living on land, knowing that I’ve lived in the water village for a long time.”
“Though it is sad for all of us to lose our homes, but I am glad that all victims made it out of the fire safe and uninjured,” she told The Brunei Times.
Pg Hjh Norsalam said she is still waiting for further information from the government on plans to help them.
Both victims received donations from Yayasan Sultan Hj Hassanal Bolkiah yesterday.
The foundation donated $29,400 to be divided among the water village and Lambak Kanan National Housing Scheme fire victims.
Managing Director Hj Brahim Hj Ismail presented cheques to representatives of each family.
