THE Ministry of Health’s head of Psychiatry Department received an award from one of the leading medical institutions in the United Kingdom recently.

Dr Hilda Ho received the Public Educator of the Year 2014 award from the Royal College of Psychiatrists last week. The award was presented by President of Royal College of Psychiatrists Professor Sir Simon Wessely.

According to a MoH statement, Dr Ho has contributed to the rise of psychiatric services in Brunei, through her efforts to expand and improve mental healthcare, and initiatives to raise public awareness about mental health – particularly in the preparation and implementation of the Mental Health Order 2014.

The annual award is one of the highest achievements in the field of psychiatry, and aims to recognise and honour outstanding work in the field of mental health.

Previously, other MoH specialists and doctors have also received similar recognition and awards from Royal Colleges in the United Kingdom, in the fields of healthcare and health work.

International awards that are received by local MoH specialists and doctors represent recognition that not only pays tribute to health professionals, but also demonstrate the country’s ability to improve healthcare services, MoH said.
