HIS Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam arrived in Beijing, China, last night for the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Economic Leaders' Meeting (AELM).

The annual summit will take place today and tomorrow in the Chinese capital, where leaders of more than half of the world's economy are gathered to discuss major topics ranging from economic integration, reform to growth prospects.

Analysts say negotiations in the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) led by the United States and the Free Trade Area of the Asia Pacific (FTAAP) backed by China will likely top the agenda.

On the sidelines of the summit themed “Shaping the Future through Asia-Pacific Partnership”, the monarch is also scheduled to attend a bilateral meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping and a separate meeting with TPP leaders.

Established in 1989, APEC is the premier forum for facilitating regional economic growth, cooperation, trade and investment among 21 member economies in the Asia-Pacific.

Accompanying His Majesty is Yang Berhormat Pehin Orang Kaya Laila Setia Dato Seri Setia Haji Abd Rahman Haji Ibrahim, Second Minister of Finance at the Prime Minister’s Office.
