Explore medicinal values of Brunei’s herbs, plants

BRUNEI has a number of unique herbs and plants that has yet to be explored and examined, especially in terms of its medicinal usage and benefits to health.

This was said by the President of Darussyifa Warrafahah (Islamic Medicine and Welfare Association), Dato Paduka Ahmad Bukhari Pehin Siraja Khatib Hj Abu Hanifah during a study trip to Mukim Tanjong Maya in Tutong to learn the Mukim’s industrial activities.

The visit was made in the hopes that the association could further learn and understand the Mukim’s way of manufacturing products from the Virgin Coconut oil (VCO) which is a specialty of Tanjong Maya – which was also used for health benefits.

The president expressed the hope that the visit will be a starting point for cooperation with the relevant entrepreneurs, wherein, combined with the medicines of “heaven and earth”, the health benefits of the VCO could be further enhanced.

During the visit, members of the Darussyifa Warrafahah was briefed by the Penghulu of Mukim Tanjong Maya, Hj Abd Wahab Apong at Kg Tanjong Maya's community hall – where they were also shown to some of the VCO products available in the village including health supplements and massage oils.

The visit was then concluded with a trip to the residence of Hjh Hasnah Hj Ibrahim, one of the VCO entrepreneurs in the village - under the name Syarikat Wira Bina - where they were shown to ways on how to operate the processing machines.

Prior to that, members of the Darussyifa Warrafahah were also briefed to some of the products of the Imbru Essential Oil Company by its manager, Dr Hj Amzah Hj Abd Rahman who further elaborated on the benefits of the VCO to health and the body.
