CIPTA deadline extended

DEADLINE date for submitting entries to join the Crown Prince Creative, Innovative Products and Technological Advancement (CIPTA) Competition 2015 has been extended to November 30, 2014.

Previous deadline for registration to CIPTA was October 30. CIPTA is a biennial competition organised by ITB in partnership with Brunei LNG Sdn Bhd as the sponsor, according to the statement from the Institut Teknologi Brunei (ITB).

The competition is open to all schools, technical, tertiary and higher education institutions, government and private organisations and the general public. ITB announced that the new ASEAN Category opened to participants from ASEAN other than Brunei could win prize money of up to $10,000.

“The ASEAN category has two sub-categories namely: the Young Inventor Category and New Invention & Innovation Category,” the statement read.

The former covers new pro-ducts, processes or technology for its usefulness to society and environment which can enhance its function or quality.

It is opened to upper secondary students (aged 15 to 18 years old) and the winner will win the “Best Young Inventor Award” which carries a cash prize of $4,000.00 and a trophy.

The New Invention & Innovation Category covers new pro-ducts, processes or technology for the usefulness of society or environment and is open to individuals or teams from Science, Technology and Engineering fields. The winner of this category will bag the “Best Invention & Innovator Award” and a cash prize of $8,000.00 and a trophy.

Winner of the “ASEAN New Invention & Innovation Category” will also be eligible to compete with winners of the Local Category 1 and 2 for the “Crown Prince Special Award” to win the grand prize of $10, 000.00 and the CIPTA Trophy.
