KDB DARUTTAQWA has set off for the Philippines to take part in its inaugural exercise.

She is one of the two Royal Brunei Navy (RBN) vessels to participate in this year’s exercise, codenamed Seagull, which is hosted by the Philippine Navy in Puerto Princesa City of Palawan Island.

Accompanying the patrol vessel, KDB Daruttaqwa, on the sixth edition of this exercise is a Fast Patrol Boat, the KDB Syafaat.

RBN stated that Lieutenant Colonel (L) Khairil Hj Abd Rahman will be commanding the KDB Daruttaqwa while Major (L) Pg Mohd Fahmy Pg Hj Mohd Sallehuddin is commanding the KDB Syafaat.

Scheduled to be held over six-days, from November 10 until 15, the vessels includes a total complement of 95 personnel, including officers, crew, one section of the Naval Surface Action Group (NSAG) and attachments.

According to an RBN statement, participants and instructors from the Sub-Lieutenant course have been invited onboard to join the deployment, with the hopes that they are able to gain professional knowledge.

The 10 participants and three instructors will mostly cover Coastal and Astro Navigation, said RBN.

The Exercise Seagull 06/14 will provide both navies with the chance to “strengthen its relationship and enhance mutual cooperation on common security concerns”.

Present yesterday to see the vessels off were the Commander of RBN, First Admiral Dato Seri Pahlawan Abd Aziz Hj Mohd Tamit; Deputy Commander of RBN, Colonel (L) Pg Norazmi Pg Hj Muhammad; and Fleet Commander, Lieutenant Colonel (L) Yusuf Masron, along with senior officers, officers and men, as well as family members.

KDB Daruttaqwa was commissioned by His Royal Highness Prince General Hj Al-Muhtadee Billah, Crown Prince and Senior Minister at the Prime Minister’s Office and General of the Royal Brunei Armed Forces earlier this year on September 8.
