Conference on early childhood care and education on Nov 27

THE Ministry of Education (MoE) and the Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah Institute of Education (SHBIE), Universiti Brunei Darussalam (UBD) will be holding the ECCE International Conference on November 27 until November 31.

The conference is aimed to bring together a diverse group of early childhood scholars, experts and professionals concerned with research, practice and policy making in early childhood care and education to share current best practices.

It will particularly focus on policies; practices and approaches that respond effectively to contextual circumstances, the ministry said in a statement.

Participants will have the opportunity to discuss and define future goals for early childhood care and education which will reflect both international and national concerns regarding young children and their future.

Current challenges and future pathways will also be addressed during the conference, for achieving goals based in best practices examples.

The four-day conference will also provide a platform for educators, researchers, teachers and relevant professionals to discuss current issues and trends in early childhood care and education in several strands such as culture, religion and community; curriculum addressing literacy, numeracy, ICT, early science and other learning areas; pedagogy, project approach, montessori, Reggio Emilia and other approaches.

Other strands that will be discussed are innovations in policy, research and practice; leadership and professionalism; teacher preparation and professional development; and inclusion of children with diverse socio-economic and learning needs; education for sustainable development in early childhood and childhood in the 21st century.

The strands also include topics that are related to early childhood education such as mental health; childhood psychology and learning; play in childhood curriculum; parent and family involvement in early childhood care and education; obesity and nutrition; child abuse; and children’s rights in education.
