Tutong alleged rape, robbery case to be heard in High Court

A MAN accused of robbery and raping a teacher at a hostel in Tutong will now have his case heard in the High Court.

During the proceedings at the Magistrates’ Court yesterday, Deputy Public Prosecutor Hjh Rozaimah Hj Abd Rahman submitted amended charges with an additional charge against defendant 22-year-old Yurawandy Bujang.

The court document states that on September 27, Yurawandy is accused of voluntarily causing fear of instant death, or of instant hurt, or of instant wrongful restraint to 21-year-old Miss X when he robbed her belongings.

He is further charged with voluntarily causing hurt and wrongful restraint on Miss X’s colleague when stealing her belongings.

Among the items allegedly stolen by Yurawandy were electronic goods including laptops, mobile phones, a Samsung camera and an iPad mini, and monies amounting to $107.

Yurawandy is also charged with raping Miss X.

He received an additional charge for allegedly stealing a Toyota Corolla some time between midnight and the early hours of September 26 at a field adjacent to the Jeti Emas Laut, Kuala Belait.

Following the application by the prosecution, Senior Magistrate Hj Nabil Daraina PDH Badaruddin granted the application for the matter to be remitted to the High Court.

The prosecution is currently waiting for a date to be given by the High Court to have the case mentioned.

In the event that no date is forthcoming from the High Court in the next two weeks, the matter will be further mentioned before Senior Magistrate Hj Nabil on November 11.

Yurawandy is currently being held under the custody of Jerudong Prison pending the hearing.
