1,000 runners take part in ITB event

NEARLY 1,000 runners took part in Institut Teknologi Brunei’s “ITB Run” to create awareness on the importance of living a healthy lifestyle.

Organised by the ITB Student Affairs and the Student Representative Council and supported by BIBD At-Tamwil Sdn Bhd, the run was also held to mark the university’s First ITB Convocation Festival.

Held at the ITB campus, the ITB Run was divided into three categories — 1km Fun Run, 5km and 10km — for males and females.

A majority of the runners took part in the 5km category.

Participants were given a pedometer to track the number of steps taken. This was done to in line with the theme of the run, “Burning Calories Together”.

The winner in the 10km category for males was Zainor SAM Md Zain. Vanessa Lobb won in the female category. The 5km male category was won by Lim Wei Kueng, while Noorhalizah Hamid won in the female division.

The 1km Fun Run and Fun Walk had five categories. Mohd Haidi won in the male staff division, Noor Deenina Hj Mohammad Sallef in the female staff group, Ak Mohd Kamarul Kamar and Dk Kupah Muniaty Pg Hj Mohd Hassan in the male and female student division, respectively. Md Zyden Su’if won in the male public division and Kamsiah Hj Kahar in the female public division.

Winners were presented with prizes that included flight tickets to Kota Kinabalu and hotel accommodation. Medals were given to the top 10 runners.

The guest of honour was the Acting Vice-Chancellor of ITB, Associate Professor Dr Hjh Zohrah Hj Sulaiman, who also presented prizes to the winners of the 10km category. The First ITB Convocation Festival was inaugurated last month and it saw a total of 416 degree and Higher National Diploma graduates receive their certificates last week at the International Convention Centre.
